In today's world, businesses have to stay protected against viruses, hackers, spyware, and other malicious technology that can hinder production or cause irreversible damage to the business. This is always an important decision for any business and is usually handled by an In-house technical staff or Out-sourced consulting firm.
| |
| Every Business needs the basic protection for their E-mail, File Servers, and Workstations. It can be costly having to purchase separate protection for all these different machines and systems. Fortunately, it is becoming standard for security software vendors to offer Suites of Protection to businesses, allowing them to cover all their bases and enjoy a reduced cost by bundling products. Let's cover some important details about purchasing a Suite of Protection for your business. |
| |
How does the Suite approach save my business money?
Let's setup an example of a Company: ABC Co. that has 100 emloyees and everyone has a workstation. So that's 100 computers that need protecting. ABC Co. also has 3 file servers and 1 of those runs their email server.
Typically you would want:
- Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Protection for the 100 Workstations.
- Anti-virus for the 3 File Servers.
- Anti-Virus and Spam Protection for the Mail Server. (In most cases you have to purchase an equal number of licenses to the number of mailboxes on your email server). e.g., ABC Co. has 100 employees so they likely need protection for 100 mailboxes.

Let's look at the savings by using the Suite approach with 2 popular protection solutions: Avast! and Kaspersky.(Note: These prices are estimates and we recommend comparing all the products we offer. )

What else should I look for when protecting my business?
| You should make sure the product is Network Deployable. This means that you can setup at least one computer to distribute the protection software to your servers and workstations. This will save time and resources when having to manage your protection. In addition, a network deployable product will provide reporting so you can see how many infections were stopped. Almost all business suites are network deployable. |
| Coverage: make sure the product you're purchasing protects the systems you're using. All business suites cover Windows Platforms but some businesses use other popular platforms like Linux or Novell. Some Businesses use different types of mail servers like Lotus Domino. Each product will state what systems are supported and your system administrators should always be consulted. |
